The first race of the P.K.R.A. Fall season was exciting.  The club had a large turnout in almost every class.  The Kid Karts ran two practice sessions, 2 eight lap heats and a ten lap main.  There were three experienced drivers and three rookies driving in Kid Karts.

 

The first ten lap heat Claire started in on the pole.  The rest of the starting order was Brendan #49, Megan #16, Sara #91x, Tyler #65x and Max #96x  She was able to maintain first place for the complete race.  Claire, Brendan and Megan ran like a train about 1/2 a kart length apart for most of the ten lap race.  The finishing order for the top three was Claire, Brandon and Megan.

 

Claire started in third place for the second heat behind Megan and Brendan.  By the third and fourth laps the fist three karts were running about 3 kart lengths apart.  On the fifth lap Claire was able to close up the gap between her and Brendan.  On the sixth lap Claire and Brendan were side by side going into turn ten the high banked turn at the end of the back straightaway.  The entered turn eleven with Claire slightly ahead and on the good line.  She was able to complete the pass and hold on to second place for the rest of the heat with Megan taking first.

 

The twelve lap main started with Claire on the pole, the rest of the field in order were Megan, Brendan, Sara, Max and Tyler.  At the start Claire was able to maintain the lead going  into the first corner.  Sara was able to pass Brendan for third.  On the fifth lap Brendan was able to get passed Sara and then he was able to pass Megan for second.  There was some contact during the pass and Megan was not going to let him keep the spot.  On the eleventh lap going into the banked turn ten Megan was able to pass Brandon and Sara was able to follow her.   On turn eleven Claire had a slight slide and went wide.  Megan was able to get around her and Sara was able to pull along side.  By turn twelve Claire had the good line and she was able to pull ahead of Sara.  Megan lead the last lap with Claire and Sara close behind.  At the finish I realized that the picture Martha took just before the race had the finishers in order right to left.  It is the picture above.  Everyone had a great day of racing and they are looking forward to the next race on September 13th.
