Race 4, Four Wins in One Day!

For the fourth race of the fall season there were nine kids competing.  The race director announced at the drivers meeting that there would be three heats and a main.

For the first heat they started Claire in fifth place.  At the start she passed two karts to move into third place before the first corner.  On the second lap she passed the second place kart on the back straight.  On the third lap she passed the first place kart and took the lead.  Claire was able to maintain the lead and win the first heat.

For the second heat they started Claire in first place.  Claire pulled ahead of Megan who was in second place before the first corner.  About five laps into the six lap heat Claire had built up a ten kart lead.  At the end of the back straight Claire had a spin,  she was able to get the kart turned around just as Megan was catching up to her.  They raced to the next turn side by side and Claire was able to retake the lead as they rounded the corner.  Megan keep up with Claire but she was able to maintain the lead for the rest of the race and she won the second heat.

For the third heat the race director did not publish a starting order.  The parents involved agreed to use one of the previous starting orders and to flip a coin to pick the one that they would use.  Megan’s parents and I stayed out of the decision making.  They flipped the coin and chose to use the second starting order.  This had Claire on the pole again and Megan in second.  Claire again had a great start and was able to take the lead before the first corner.  Claire maintained the lead for the eight laps and won the third heat.

For the Main the race director put Claire on the pole and Sara in second and Megan in third with the six other karts filling out the field.  Claire had a great start.  Sara had a bad bog off the line and fell to last place.  Claire was able to build a nice lead.  As the race went on Sara was able to start passing the other karts.  With two laps to go Sara passed Megan for second place.  Sara was not able to catch Claire and Claire won the main.  The finishing order was Claire, Sara and Megan.  We went to post tech and they tested the gas from the top three karts, we all passed as I knew that we would.  I took the picture above in post tech.

Claire is sad that she will have to miss the next race.  We are going to be out of town.  Her next race is going to be on November 9th.
